Quarrying
Wheel wash systems for quarries
SiteWash systems for quarry entrances: sized to the ground, from sand and gravel to clay, and able to run from settlement lagoons and concrete tanks.
The requirement
What the site needs
Quarries run under permit conditions with metered water and entrances that move as the quarry develops. Clay overburden is the hardest ground to clean from tires, and it needs more water per vehicle.
SiteWash systems can run from an existing settlement lagoon or concrete tank to add water volume, and every system is bolted, so it can move as the entrance moves.
Engineering considerations
What we size for
- Traffic profile
- Separate haul-circuit trucks from road-going traffic, and size to the peak hour.
- Material loading
- Sand and gravel release easily. Clay and silt need more water and a longer passage.
- Water
- Steel tank, existing concrete tank or settlement lagoon.
- Maintainability
- Sludge removal access for a vacuum truck, planned at the site survey.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How do you handle clay?
Clay needs more water per vehicle. For clay or silt, systems are supplied with a larger tank, concrete tank or lagoon, and with the pump and nozzles configured to suit.
Can the wheel wash run from our settlement lagoon?
Yes. SiteWash systems can run from an existing concrete tank or settlement lagoon, which adds water volume and throughput.
Can the system move when the entrance moves?
Yes. Every SiteWash system is bolted together, so it can be dismantled and reinstalled at a new position.
Will it take 44 t haul trucks?
Yes. SiteWash spray systems are rated for 45 t gross and 33,000 lb (15 t) per axle, and run on 44 t haul vehicles at CRH Roadstone quarries.
